Alabama Recruiting Notebook

National Signing Day is Wednesday, February 1st, and several prospects in the state of Alabama are still weighing their options. Andrew Bone takes a look at recent visitors, decisions and much more..

Jameis Winston

The five-star quarterback, from Hueytown, took his first visit since the summer to Florida State this past weekend. Winston committed to the Seminoles in August, but tripped to Tuscaloosa a few times during the season and also took an official visit to the in-state school.

Winston continues to remain firm with his commitment to the out-of-state program, and Alabama will have an in-home visit this week. Winston was joined at FSU this past weekend with other players from the state of Alabama including Chris Casher and Justin Shanks who are also committed to the Seminoles.

Cassanova McKinzy

The four-star middle linebacker and Auburn commitment, from Birmingham-Woodlawn, took an official visit to Clemson this past weekend. McKinzy remains committed to Auburn, and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney and assistant coach Charlie Harbinson will have an in-home visit Tuesday night. A whole lot of Tigers will pay close attention to where he signs next week.

Caleb Peterson

The three-star offensive guard, from Auburn, has decided to re-join coach Larry Fedora as a commitment to North Carolina. Peterson originally committed to Southern Miss. The coaching staff continued to recruit him when they were hired by the Tar Heels. Peterson puts an end to his recruitment and will now play in the ACC rather than Conference USA.

Linebacker duo

Beau Hankins, three-star linebacker from Birmingham-Jackson-Olin, and Harding Harper, three-star linebacker from Montgomery-Carver, continue to take the same visits. The two visited UCF this past weekend. A visit to Georgia Tech is expected this weekend. The two plan to announce their college decision on signing day and will go to the same school. Arkansas and UCF are at the top of their list at this point.

Trae Elston

The three-star cornerback, from Oxford, has seen his recruitment change a little bit in the past few months. He traveled to Ole Miss this past weekend for an official visit. The Rebels made a very strong impression and currently sit at the top of his list. He will take an official visit this weekend to Oklahoma State before announcing his commitment on signing day.

Calhoun County

Michael Flint, three-star offensive guard from Oxford, and Troymaine Pope, running back from Anniston, have made their college choices. Flint committed to Arkansas State while on an official visit in Jonesboro this past weekend. Pope decided to stay closer to home with a commitment to Jacksonville State. Pope was the Class 4A Back of the Year.
