Cousins Visit Illini for Junior Day

New Lenox (Ill.) linebackers Brian and Jack Fordon visited Illinois over the weekend.

Illinois is making a concerted effort to recruit their home state in the 2013 class under new head coach Tim Beckman and that was notable this weekend when the Illini hosted many top in-state juniors including Providence Catholic linebackers Brian Fordon and Jack Fordon, cousins who are both being recruited by a number of schools.

"First of all I was very impressed with the coaching staff," Brian said. "from the head coach all the way down to the strength coaches. Coach Beckman was very personable. I would love to play for a guy like that. I would run through a wall for him. He will make them a winner. The linebacker coach Ward was very nice also. They invited me down for there next junior day and the spring game."

The staff emphasized the in-state approach to the Fordons.

"Coach Butkus is my recruiting coach and he said they are going to recruit the Illinois kids the hardest. They said they would be at Providence to visit after signing day. They want to see my junior tape as well."

Brian's cousin Jack also had a good visit with the Illini.

"He met most of the coaches," Jack's father John Fordon said. "Coach Beckman, Coach Ward and Coach Butkus. He was impressed with the facilities at Illinois and had a good time at the basketball game. Coach Butkus told Jack they are going to concentrate on in state recruits, something they thought the previous staff got away from. They invited Jack back to Illinois for another junior day on March 10 to watch a scrimmage. Jack was glad he went and looks forward to going back in March."

Brian says he plans to visit Western Michigan for their junior day this week.
