Tide offered with a twist

Carl Lawson, defensive end from Alpharetta-Milton, Ga., received news from Alabama head coach Nick Saban during the Junior Day visit. The news came with a twist.

"The visit to Alabama was great," said Carl Lawson. "I really enjoyed it a lot. I appreciated being invited to it. Alabama offered me at Junior Day.

"I was really happy about the offer. It's the one I have been wanting for. I was grateful for the offer. I am just going to keep working hard.

"My mom and I went to coach Saban's office. He told me I had an offer from Alabama. He said it's contingent based on the fact I learn how to play the outside linebacker position.

The 6-foot-2.5, 245-pound prospect talked about the overall Junior Day trip.

"I really like Alabama," he said. "I had high expectations going into the visit. Everything was top notch. I really like Alabama a lot.

"I love the strength and conditioning coach. I enjoyed talking to him. I enjoyed going to the basketball game and meeting with the coaches. I really had a good time up there."

Lawson has received verbal offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky and UCLA. He favors Alabama, Auburn, Florida and UCLA in no particular order.

"I like how everything is structured at Alabama. It's designed for success. The coaching staff and facilities are first class. I like Alabama a lot.

"I love the people at Auburn. I love the coaching staff. It's a great place. I like the facilities. I like the strength coach. It's a fun place to be.

"I haven't visited Florida yet. I just got the offer from them a while ago. I can't really elaborate too much on them yet. I look forward to visiting them though.

"I really like the staff at UCLA. I like coach Mora. I heard it's gorgeous out there. I have heard everything is top-notch. I can't wait to visit."
