5. Sept. 30, 2011 -- William Mahone announces
Notre Dame wanted a big back and had a few on its list, but Mahone was on the top. The Fitch High (Youngstown, Ohio) waited until after a game to make his announcement, but he chose the Irish and filled a huge hole in the class.
4. Dec. 15, 2011 -- Ronnie Stanley picks Irish
When the four-star offensive tackle's recruiting process really started to churn, he didn't want to play in Notre Dame's style of offense and thought about eliminating the Irish. However, the Bishop Gorman High (Las Vegas) standout continued to think about the education of the school, and the staff he would work with, and he was hooked after an official visit and made his selection.
3 Aug. 3, 2011 -- Big Day for Irish
It was that long before this day that Warren High (Indianapolis) four-star Sheldon Day wanted to make a few visits before making his decision. However, he loved everything about the Irish and decided it was the place for him. Notre Dame long had Day as its top defensive tackle, and it landed him just before the start of training camp.
2. March 2, 2011 -- Shepard kicks off 2011
A month after signing day for the 2012 class, five-star Tee Shepard kick-started Notre Dame's 2012 class when he gave his verbal commitment. While there were twists and turns before he enrolled in January, Shepard gave Notre Dame a great start and high visibility with his early decision.
1. Jan. 17, 2012 -- Kiel Enrolls
The twists and turns of the nation's top-rated quarterback ended when the school announced Gunner Kiel enrolled. It came a day after he didn't show at LSU for a team meeting as the semester began. It gave the Irish a top-notch quarterback commitment, which became a necessity given the way the position unfolded during the season.
