Santa Marina Scores Bama Offer

McDonogh #35 offensive lineman Kenneth Santa Marina took the trip from New Orleans to Tuscaloosa last weekend and departed with an offer in hand from the national champs.

"He loved it," said McDonogh #35 coach Frank Daggs when asked about Kenneth Santa Marina'a Tuscaloosa trip. "I've talked with Coach (Burton) Burns since the Junior Day and he's excited about Kenneth.

"I know Kenneth loved the campus - and the academics, more than anything. He has offers from Arizona State, Florida, Colorado, and all the state schools. Coach (Jason) Rollins from Tulane is really on it with the recruiting."

Daggs has watched Santa Marina's steady progress over the past few years.

"I had the privilege of coaching him when he came in as eighth-grader," said the veteran coach. "He was 6-foot-3 and 275 to 280 pounds back then, and now he's 6-foot-6 and anywhere from 310 to 340 pounds.

"His weight fluctuates. He's at 315 pounds right now. He's a well-mannered, disciplined kid who will do anything you ask."

McDonogh #35 reached the Class 4A quarterfinals in 2011 before losing to eventual state champ Neville on the road.

The Roneagles defeated arch-rival St. Augustine twice, first in the season-opener and then in the second round of the playoffs.
