"In April when I committed, it was like getting engaged," said Towles. "But when I signed, it was like getting married.
"It meant everything (to sign) with Kentucky. I just wanted to get the opportunity to be involved with the program. It was awesome," Towles continued.
Joker Phillips called Towles the face of Kentucky's 2012 recruiting class. But just like anybody else on the roster, Towles is going to have to earn his time – a job he believes will be a little easier because of the players around him.
"I think I'm a change of pace guy. They said I'd have a chance to compete. I hope they give me the opportunity to play early. I've got good players around me. I'm not going to try to do too much. The job of quarterback is monumental, but it'll be easier for me with the talent around me," he said.
Towles also developed a relationship with some of those players, including the fellow 2012 signees.
"I've talked to a lot of the guys. I've gotten close to Jonathan Reed, the safety from Indianapolis. I like him. We may room together. I talk to DeMarcus Sweat, from Georgia. He's a good receiver. Khalid Henderson and Justin Taylor are two guys we didn't know if we'd get. I haven't had a chance to talk to them, but I look forward to developing a relationship with them," Towles finished.
