Cameron Luper with five

Cameron Luper, athlete from Auburn, Ala., is one of the top in-state players in the class of 2013. He is collecting offers and doesn't mind leaving the state. He talked about schools and which position he prefers to play at the next level.

"Right now I have offers from Vanderbilt, Southern Miss, Toledo, UTEP and Utah," said Cameron Luper. "I am also receiving interest from North Carolina, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Baylor and Texas A&M. I haven't been able to attend any junior days yet because I am running indoor track.

"With me being from Texas I am definitely interested in Texas schools like Texas A&M, Baylor and TCU. I like Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU and Kentucky."

The 6-foot, 185-pounder clocks a 4.34 40-yard dash and a dangerous weapon with the ball in his hands. He played quarterback this past season for the Tigers completing 77-of-142 for 1,412 yards with 17 touchdowns and only one interception. He had 107 carries for 681 yards and eight touchdowns.

"I am mainly being recruited as an athlete," he said. "Most schools aren't really saying yet where they want me to play. I will play wherever a coach needs me. I would mainly like to play on offense. If I have to play on defense I will. I also love returning kicks.

Luper recognizes his strengths and areas to improve.

"Since I am currently playing quarterback I would say my strength is reading defenses. I have a stepdad (Curtis Luper) who is a coach. He taught me how to read defenses. Also my ability to scramble. I would like to improve my arm strength and pocket awareness. If I saw one wide receiver not open I would just scramble.

Luper's stepdad is the running backs coach for the Auburn University Tigers.

"It has helped me tremendously," Luper said of the benefits of the relationship. "I can read defenses a lot better. I have a better understanding when I am watching film. I can see things my coach my not see that I am doing wrong. It has also helped me in being humble. I see how humble the players are at Auburn."

Luper is currently competing in the 60m, long jump and 4X2 relay and will continue with track during the spring.
