Kamryn Melton lands SEC offer

Kamryn Melton, cornerback from Dothan, Ala., is one of the best defensive backs in his home state. He recently landed his first SEC offer. Several other BCS schools are also showing interest. Melton talked about the scholarship offers and recent visit to Tallahassee.

"I have offers from Kentucky, Jacksonville State and UAB," said Kamryn Melton. "Kentucky offered me on Tuesday. I am also receiving interest from Georgia Tech, Florida State, Auburn, Alabama and Georgia.

"Kentucky told me they saw my highlight film. They liked it. Coach Tee Martin talked to me on the phone. He told me they were offering me a scholarship. It's my first big D-I offer. It's far from where I live, so we will see."

Melton attended Florida State's Junior Day a week ago. He will visit Alabama later in February.

"The trip to Florida State was very exciting," he said. "They really care about your academics. They don't just care about football. They want to make you feel comfortable. I really like it there. I felt at home.

"The coaches told me I am a perfect fit down there. They want to see my test scores. They liked my size. They measured me at 5-foot-11, 176-pounds.

Melton reports a 4.45 40-yard dash. He had 63 tackles this past season, three tackles for loss, seven pass break-ups and one interception. He had 21 punt returns for 389 yards and one touchdown. Melton had three interceptions as a sophomore.

"I would say my one-on-one, man-to-man coverage is my biggest strength," Melton said. "I am comfortable running with guys when the ball is in the air. I still want to work on my hips and become better at breaking on the ball."
