This past weekend several guys visited the Spartans to take in some basketball action. However, one target was not able to attend the game.
Offensive lineman David Dawson of Detroit (MI) Cass Technical stands 6-foot-4, 290-pounds and is considered one of the top line prospects in Michigan. Where do the Spartans stand with Dawson?
"Michigan State has said they are real interested and thinking I'm close to getting an offer," said Dawson. "I'm hoping to get up there in the next few weeks so I can meet the rest of the coaching staff."
How important would it be to Dawson to receive an offer from MSU?
"It would mean a lot to me," Dawson said. "It is a school in my home state that I have built a real good relationship with Coach (Terrence) Samuel and Coach (Mark) Staten."
If the Spartans offer would Dawson be looking to make an early pledge?
"Right now I'm not thinking about committing early to any school," he said. "Right now I'm just taking the recruiting process in. If it comes to a point that I know that is where I want to be I'll do it. But right now I don't have a set time. I don't think it will be around this time next year (Signing Day) I think it will be a lot earlier."
What is Dawson looking for in a school?
"Academics are number one," Dawson stressed. "I'll also be looking at the campus and lifestyle of the athletes along with how the coaches interact with their players and how the players interact with each other."
Dawson is open to the thought of leaving the state if the right program is found. However, an offer from MSU could change that thought.
"I would consider leaving," said Dawson. "I'm not set on staying in Michigan. But if State would offer me it is one I would have to really consider."
Dawson is quickly adding quality offers to his list and the Spartans could be adding to it in the next week.
