Edwards Surprised, Excited by First Offer

Detroit Catholic Central (Mich.) junior offensive lineman Derek Edwards grabs a Pac-12 offer as his first and talks about the other schools interested in him.

Detroit Catholic Central always seems to have a few FBS prospects, and while junior offensive lineman Derek Edwards transferred in before this year and hasn't gotten the same attention as some of his teammates, the process got going in a big way this week when Arizona became the first school to offer the 6'5, 270-lb prospect.

"It was awesome," he said. "It happened [Saturday]. Actually, the assistant coaches at Arizona called me about it on Friday, but I talked to Coach Rodriguez [Saturday] around 3pm and he told me over the phone. It was definitely really awesome. It was kind of unexpected. I had only been talking to them for a week, week and a half, but it definitely made the weekend, so I was really excited."

Edwards is so excited by the offer, that he plans to take a look at the Wildcats as soon as he can.

"Yeah, me and my parents have been talking about going over maybe spring break if we get a chance and maybe hitting up a couple other schools if we get the opportunity, but we definitely want to check it out."

Arizona struck first with the offer, but there are plenty of other schools interested in Edwards right now.

"I've had a lot of talk with Michigan State, Syracuse, Purdue. I talked to Cincinnati for awhile today. I've been trying to call Notre Dame and I've been trying to get in contact with Indiana and Michigan a little bit."

Over the spring and summer, Edwards will be getting out to some of those schools to see them or camp with them in hopes of adding to his offer list.

"Purdue has their junior day in March, which I plan on going to, and then all the camps. I plan on going to Ohio State in late June and then Michigan State's junior day and some of their spring practices."
