Early Look: 2013 Tight Ends

Some very good tight ends will come out of the South in 2013 and here is an early look at some of the best.

Early Look: 2013 Tight Ends
Standish Dobard – 6-4/230 – New Orleans (LA) Edna Karr

Quick Hitter: Dobard is a true tight end. He has very strong hands, he gets off the ball well, and he is an effective blocker with good size. He claims offers from schools like Alabama, Florida, LSU, and Miami among others. He really catches the ball well with his hands and he can be an every down tight end on the next level.

Hunter Henry – 6-5/242 - Little Rock (AR) Pulaski Academy

Quick Hitter: Scout named Henry a Top 100 prospect for 2013 back in September 2011 and he has lived up to that. He is a very athletic tight end who is a real weapon down the field. He makes the tough catch look easy and schools like Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, and Oklahoma have already offered him a scholarship.

Mike Heuerman – 6-4/220 – Naples (FL) Barron Collier

Quick Hitter: Around a year ago, Heuerman looked like a big wide receiver, but he has really developed into a true tight end. He will be the best in Florida at his position entering the 2012 season because of his hands, the way he can run, and potential he has on the next level. Interest has really started to pick up; LSU offered last week and Florida State, Miami, and others have as well.

O.J. Howard – 6-5/221 – Prattville (AL) Autauga Academy

Quick Hitter: Auburn offered Howard first, then Alabama pulled the trigger shortly thereafter, and that was the offer he wanted. Howard has been committed to the Crimson Tide since the summer and Howard has been impressive since. He is extremely athletic, he is very fluid, and he has receiver like hands. He will be a real weapon in the Alabama offense.

Desean Smith – 6-4/220 – Lake Charles (LA) Alfred M. Barbe

Quick Hitter: Smith is a very smooth tight end that really moves well on the football field. He is known most for his soft hands, his ability to catch the ball in traffic, and someone who could really create mismatches on the next level. A long list of schools have offered including LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.

Here are some other tight ends to watch out of the South and more will emerge in the coming months.

Jordan Davis - 6-4/225 - Thomson (GA) Thomson
A.J. Jackson - 6-6/240 - Lovejoy (GA) Lovejoy
Jordan Leggett - 6-6/220 Navarre (FL) Navarre
Josh McNeil - 6-5/240 - Durham (NC) Hillside
