Preview: Best of the Midwest Combine

For the second year, the Indianapolis combine will draw some big names.

Next week, top NFL prospects will descend upon Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine, but in the same town, the Best of the Midwest Combine will feature some of the top high school talents in the country for the second straight year.

Last year, a number of top prospects including David Perkins, Sheldon Day, Gehrig Dieter and others attended. It was also where future BCS signees like Josiah Price, John Turner, and Caleb Cornett raised their stocks. We also had some top underclassmen like Ty Isaac participate and serve early notice that they were top national prospects.

This year, again there are some big time headliners. Warren Central (Ind.) linebacker Tim Kimbrough and Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (Ind.) linebacker Jaylon Smith are two in-state guys who already have big time BCS prospects and are both ranked among Scout's early top 100. Other in-state prospects with offers include Indianapolis Pike junior DE David Kenney and Lawrence Central offensive lineman Tim Gardner.

Notre Dame commit Steven Elmer and fast rising Peoria Manual (Ill.) junior Logan Tuley-Tillman are two highly regarded offensive lineman. Lexington Catholic (Ky.) QB Kyle Bolin was there last year and returns as a Louisville commit.

South Bend Clay (Ind.) WR Wesley Thomas, Lake Central (Ind.) WR David Yancey, Fort Wayne (Ind.) Homestead WR Isaac Griffith, Middletown Fenwick (Ohio) QB Ricky Davis and Chicago Simeon (IL) LB Reggie Spearman are other prospects who are coming in with scholarship offers already.

Other seniors looking to add offers after this event, as many did last year, are Dwayne Brown (OL - Warren Central), Jordan Jackson (LB - Decatur Central), Mike Rogers (WR - Bishop Luers), Anthony Warrum (WR - Heritage Christian), Jamaal Bridges (LB - Warren Central) and more.

As for the underclassmen, one of the Midwest's best, Hamilton Southeastern (Ind.) running back Jametrius Crockham will attend along with Columbus (Ohio) Bishop Hartley corner/running back Alonzo Saxton, Indianapolis Pike (Ind.) QB Brent Lyles and Warren Central (Ind.) RB Adrian Smith.
