Kansas TE holding offer from Jayhawks

Basehor (KS) Linwood TE Ben Johnson had a big junior season in 2011, hauling in 56 passes for 954 yards and 12 touchdowns. One of the top prospects in the state for the Class of 2013, he visited the University of Kansas on Feb. 11 for the football program's Junior Day, and recently got a bit of good news.

Kansas Jayhawks football held its annual Junior Day recruiting event the weekend of Feb. 11, and many of the top prospects from throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area were on hand.

One such prospect was Basehor (KS) Linwood TE Ben Johnson. A 6-foot-6, 235-pound physical specimen with excellent athleticism and hands for the position, he left Lawrence, Kan. without a scholarship offer in hand - but Wednesday that lack was remedied.

As one would expect, Head Coach Charlie Weis and his staff have done their homework when it comes to extending offers, and thus far only a very small handful of area prospects have received one, including Roeland Park (KS) Bishop Miege quarterback Montell Cozart, Johnson himself and Stilwell (KS) Blue Valley offensive tackle Clay Rhodes.

Phog.net confirmed the offer Thursday with Basehor-Linwood head coach Steve Hopkins.

Johnson is currently in the midst of basketball season, and thus was unavailable for an interview. Check back with Phog.net in the coming weeks as the recruitment of one of the top prospects in the Sunflower State develops.
