Lemming Liking Northwestern

Northwestern is back in Chicago's south suburbs, making contact with Lemont High School defensive back Jake Lemming. The rising junior is hoping to visit NU for one of its spring practices. Go inside Lemming's recruitment in this PurpleWildcats.com update.

Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald has stated that the program's recruiting efforts start and end in the Chicago-area. The Wildcats are back in Lemont, the home to one of the area's top football programs, Lemont High School.

Jake Lemming, a rising junior defensive back, has received interest from Boston College, Bufallo, Illinois, Indiana, Tulsa, and now Northwestern.

NU assistant coach Adam Cushing, who handles recruiting in Chicago's south suburbs, contacted Lemming and urged him to visit campus for a spring practice.

Lemming is close with the family of former Wildcats Aaron and Brett Nagel, and has heard what Northwestern is all about.

"I've heard it's a great academic school," Lemming said of Northwestern. "Coach Fitzgerald is really changingt it there and its becoming an elite program."

Lemming serves as a safety for the Lemont Indians, but many schools are interested in him playing cornerback in college.

There has been no visit officially set for Lemming, but he hopes to attend Northwestern's spring game, if possible. Most importantly, Lemming would like to meet with NU's coaches.

"I want to meet the DBs coach and obviously Coach Fitzgerald," he said. "What (Fitzgerald) has done at Northwestern is pretty crazy, making them an elite program, it's pretty awesome."

For Lemming, the most enticing thing which Northwestern offers is its top-notch academic prestige.

"If you go to Northwestern, you're set for life," Lemming said. "That's really impresive, obviously. There's always life after football and that's something I'm looking forward to."

During the offseason, Lemming has taken part in Lemont's weight-lifting sessions, which occur each week day, and is planning on joining the 7-on-7 squad this summer.

Lemming was named to the NCSA All-Area team for his stellar junior campaign.
