MLK Standout Talks About Auburn, Recruiting

Left tackle Joshua Outlaw talks about his visit to Auburn and making a good decision on his college choice.

Lithonia, Ga.--Martin Luther King High School has been a football prospect factory in recent years with more than 20 players signing scholarships this year alone. The next big thing at the school is 6-4, 275-pound left tackle Joshua Outlaw, who already has a large number of offers.

He made a recent visit to check out the Auburn football program and said it was worth making the trip down I-85.

"I definitely enjoyed it," Outlaw said. "It definitely seems like Auburn is a close-knit, family-oriented type of family. I enjoyed my time, and it's very down South and Southern.

"I talked with Coach (Jeff) Grimes, who is the O-line coach, and then I talked with Coach (Tommy) Thigpen, who is my recruiting coach," Outlaw added.

"We talked it up a bit. I talked for a while with Coach Grimes about the things that he likes about me that I do. I told him the things that I like about the program. We sat down and got to know each other pretty well.

"Coach Grimes said he likes my athleticism at the position I play at, and he said that I can do a lot things well," Outlaw continued. "He said I would fit the offense pretty nice because they like to move the tackle and guard a little bit pulling. He said I've got good foot movement so he wants me to come back during the spring."

According to Outlaw, Grimes would give him his first shot at tackle but then see where he would fit into the mix at offensive line.

"I would definitely say the best part of the visit was seeing the stadium, the stadium locker room and I just enjoyed being around," Outlaw said. "It's just so nice. It's so nice. It's Southern down South so it doesn't feel like I'm too far from Georgia."

Outlaw visited the campus with several of his teammates, most notably 2014 cornerback Wesley Green. Green will have a chance to be one of the top corners in the country, and he got an offer from Auburn after the visit. Outlaw received his Auburn offer earlier in the month.

"I have currently around 17 offers," Outlaw explained. "Florida, Georgia, Louisville, TCU, N.C. State, Kentucky, Vandy, Tennessee, South Carolina, Clemson. That's all I can name off the top off the top of my head. Recruiting has been going at a very fast pace and I've picked up a few pretty fast.

"I'm open to seeing other schools so I don't have any favorites as of yet," Outlaw added. "I'll probably wait so I can make a firm decision. I don't want to commit, then de-commit. I just want to make a firm decision later on.

"I would like to play early," Outlaw continued, "and I would like to get a good feel for the coaching staff and their program. And also my major, which is mass communications."
