Smart Sees South Alabama

South Alabama is an up-and-coming program that hosted a Junior Day over the weekend. Scotlandville (La.) DT Tanzel Smart was in attendance, and he recaps the day's events inside.

What was Tanzel Smart's reaction to seeing South Alabama for the first time?

"I like the campus," he began. "They asked how interested I was in their school. Their defensive line coach is the recruiter who is in charge of Baton Rouge prospects.

"He's going to look at my highlight tape some more. I got good feedback from them about it. My teammate, Larry Clark, also went to the Junior Day, and Dondre Dobbins was invited but didn't make it."

North Texas is showing significant interest.

"I talked to Coach (Justin) Gaines on the phone and they're very interested," said Smart (6-2, 275). "I sent them my stuff, and they said to look for an offer soon. They want me to come to their camp in June.

"Colorado's coach sent me a message on Facebook today, asking how I'm doing. He said I've been the subject of discussion in their office."

Smart led a resurrection at Scotlandville in 2011. The Hornets went from a sub-.500 program in '10 to a Class 5A playoff team and the future looks bright at the north Baton Rouge program.
