Briggs Talks Plans

FOXSportsNext has the latest on 2013 offensive lineman Tate Briggs of Montini Catholic High in Lombard, Ill. Briggs talks about getting back on the field after surgery, a big hobby, and upcoming visits.

Montini Catholic High offensive lineman Tate Briggs has been busy rehabbing a leg injury, and trying to get back on the field.

Although Briggs is nearly back to full action on the field, he hasn't slowed down in the recruiting process at all.

"I've been to Illinois twice," Briggs said. "And now I am planning to visit Purdue, Minnesota, Michigan State and Western Michigan within the next couple of months"

Both trips to Champaign, Briggs has come away impressed.

"I loved Illinois," Briggs said. "I feel very comfortable there with the coaches and I also will probably visit Arkansas and Wisconsin."

And although Briggs has yet to receive his first offer, he feels confident that they will come.

"I know that once I start playing again the coaches will see how good I can be," Briggs said.

One of the ways that Briggs hopes to stand out is his strength – which he focuses on in an intense way.

"I have been wanting to take some visits but I have been really busy training for my state weightlifting meet," Briggs said. "I am hoping to set a state bench press record and then break the national record."

So how much does Briggs bench?

"I am pretty serious about it actually." Briggs said. "I am at 475 pounds right now, and the national record is around 500."

He added, "If I win state then I go to nationals."

Which means he is in the weight room, a lot.

"I lift about five times a week," Briggs said. "I really love weight lifting."

Stay on FOXSportsNext for the latest on Briggs as he and the rest of Montini Catholic look to defend their 5A state title during his senior year.
