Cali sophomore lands offer No. 2

Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian athlete Marquis Ware is one of the elite sophomores in the state. He's a two-way standout and landed his second scholarship offer on Tuesday.

Marquis Ware played both tight end and defensive end a year ago and could play on either side of the ball in college as well. He totaled 75 tackles and 14 sacks as a sophomore playing a similar hybrid defensive end/linebacker role that standout Devon Moreland played two years ago.

"Washington State was my first offer and then Boise State offered yesterday," Ware said. "The Washington State offer came out of the blue, I really wasn't hearing from them much. They talked to my coach, D'vah Thomas and when he told me they were offering, I was really excited. It was cool to get my first offer from a Pac 12 school.

"I was excited by the Boise State offer too and they have been recruiting me for a while. It showed me that all my hard work was paying off. I don't know a lot about either school but I'm going to do some research about them and see what I can find out. I would like to take a visit and see what each program is about."

In addition to the Cougs and Broncos, a few other schools could be close to offering as well.

"I'm hearing that Arizona could be close to offering and UCLA could as well," Ware said. "Coach Thomas talked with Tony Dews at Arizona and he said they're real and that would definitely be a big offer to have. I talked to Coach Yarber at UCLA and they sound very interested. He was actually the first college coach I've talked with and I liked him a lot.

"I'm also hearing from Penn State, USC, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, TCU and several others. I visited USC for their Junior Day and I might camp with them over the summer. Right now, I'm leaning towards playing tight end in college, I like having the ball in m hands. Location will be important to me and I also want to play as a true freshman so depth chart is something I'll be looking at."
