Florida DB Will Camp At Boise State

Fort Pierce Central HS DB Joe Figueroa (Fort Pierce, FL) currently holds offers from Northern Illinois & Harvard, but a number of other schools are showing interest as well, including Boise State. That interest will bring him to Boise to camp. He spoke to BroncoCountry.com about his interest in Boise State & his recruitment thus far.

Fort Pierce Central HS DB Joe Figueroa (Fort Pierce, FL) currently holds offers from Northern Illinois and Harvard, but a number of other schools are showing interest as well, including Boise State. The talented DB says a handful of schools will be sending coaches down to evaluate him during spring practice and he also has Boise State on his camp schedule.

"Northern Illinois and Harvard have already offered," he said. "UCF, USF, FAU, Florida State, and Boise State are other schools that I keep in contact with," he added.

"Boise State is really interested," he stated. "I was told they don't recruit Florida too hard since it's a long ways away, but they're going to send a coach down this spring and might offer. They want to see me at practice and also want me to go to the camp this summer."

"Yeah, I'm going to camp at Boise State," said Figueroa. "I've also got my team camp at UCF and a few others that I might go to as well."

Boise, ID might be 2,000 miles away from Fort Pierce but Figueroa has paid close attention to the program over the years.

"They're unique, have that cool blue field, and are really aggressive on defense," he said. "I've watched a lot of their games on TV over the years. What I like is how they tend to take guys that are undersized or overlooked and then utilize them in great ways. They look for playmakers and don't recruit based on size alone."

"Boise State and most of the other schools are recruiting me just as a DB," he said. "I've played all of the positions in the secondary, but I want to continue to work on all of those positions as well. I want to show the coaches that come to watch me (during spring practice) that I can play any of them at the next level."

In 2011, Figueroa and his teammates finished the season with a 9-2 record. They return 9 starters on defense and 8 on offense heading into the 2012 campaign. That means it's "state title or bust."

"It's state or bust," he said. "That's our goal and we have plenty of playmakers coming back. There are no excuses for us. We have the leadership, the coaching, and the talent. We need to win state."

"1971 was the last year that we won state," said Figueroa. "We still have a lot of those former players from that team come back and talk to us about how we can win a state title too. Hopefully, we'll be able to do that this year."

So, what does Joe Figueroa (5'10, 185, 4.51) bring to the gridiron?

"Usually, the one word that comes to mind is ball-hawk," he said. "I see the ball and I get the ball. Coaches say they watch my film, see the offensive player with the ball, and I'm right there to make the tackle."

BroncoCountry.com will continue to have updates on Joe Figueroa.
