Windmiller with busy schedule ahead

Mill Valley (KS) High School quarterback Skyler Windmiller is going to be a traveling man during the next few days, with plans to take unofficial visits to four different schools in the region.

First, however, he and his dad stopped by the University of Kansas on Saturday, to take in a spring practice - the program's first of the spring in full pads. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound quarterback came away impressed.

"Me and my dad walked around," Skyler Windmiller said. "We were over on the sidelines. We were always close to the quarterbacks and watching what they were doing. When they'd make a play or mess up, (QB coach Ron Powlus) wouldn't flip out or anything, which is good."

The pace and excitement level surrounding the team also stood out to him, and afterward he had the chance to partake in a position meeting with Powlus.

"He just went over a couple of their plays and kind of gave us a sneak peak into their offense," Windmiller explained.

Now the busy part of the schedule begins. Wednesday, he'll visit Northern Illinois, followed by a trip to Iowa on Thursday and another to Tulsa on Saturday. He's back home Sunday, before leaving Monday for South Dakota State. On the 20th he'll head to Atlanta for Elite 11 camp, before traveling to Knoxville the next day for a Junior Day/Spring Game combination at Tennessee.

It's a lot of traveling, but Windmiller doesn't mind. he knows it's a rare opportunity.

"It's a little stressful at times, but I know you've gotta risk a lot to get a lot," he said. "I have to do some things that normal high schoolers wouldn't have to do, but I'm gonna get some chances that normal high schoolers wouldn't get."
