Hinton Hopeful for Spring

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco athlete Arlandis Hinton is hopeful that spring will bring in his first offer...

One of the surprises in Las Vegas at the NLA Elite 7on7 was Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco cornerback Arlandis Hinton.

The 6-0, 175-pounder was a big part of 1925's run to the finals, including an interception in overtime that moved them on to the semifinals.

But like his junior year, Hinton had a tendency to be overshadowed by other prospects on his team.

Still, Hinton was happy for the chance to make some noise in both Vegas and at the SoCal NFTC.

"It's a great opportunity playing for 1925, and being coached by Keyshawn Johnson and Brian Kelly and a great opportunity for me to get exposure," said Hinton.

Last fall, Hinton played for a Braves team that had players like Bryce Treggs, Justin Johnson, Beau Boyster and Dalis Bruce, who all signed in February, and this year, one of the premier offensive linemen in the West, Nico Falah, is a teammate.

So Hinton is hoping the top players at Bosco will bring some more attention his way.

"Playing with Bryce and Dalis really helped me become a better player, and now with Nico there, it should pick up pretty soon with a lot of college coaches coming by the school," said Hinton.

Hinton said a handful of schools are showing interest in him.

"I'm hearing from Utah, Colorado, Duke, Fresno State, Arizona State and UCLA," said Hinton. "Most schools are looking at me as an athlete. I want to play whatever gets me on the field so I want to be recruited as an athlete and show I can play both sides of the ball."

Hinton said that two schools stand out to him.

"My two favorite schools are UCLA and Duke," said Hinton. "Academics have always been important to me."

Hinton is carrying a 4.3 GPA and scored a 1390 on the SAT when he took it as a sophomore.

"I'll be taking it again this spring to raise my score," said Hinton.

Hinton has plans to take in a few more camps this spring and summer.

"I'm supposed to go to Colorado's camp and Utah's camp and then definitely UCLA's camp and some of the other California school's camps," said Hinton. "And then whatever tournaments 1925 plays in."
