Notre Dame offers D.C. linebacker

Notre Dame offers Washington, D.C. linebacker Yannick Ngakoue of Friendship Collegiate.

"It was a big surprise," said Yannick Ngakoue of Friendship Collegiate in Washington, D.C., when his high school coach informed him that he received an offer from the Fighting Irish. "Notre Dame is a great school, and they are short on linebackers."

The 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker likes the idea of playing early.

"Yea, they are looking for 'backers, so I could play early, so I am definitely thinking about them," he added.

He also likes the idea of playing alongside his close friend Devin Butler, a corner out of Gonzaga (D.C.), who verballed with Notre Dame recently. "I talked to him (Butler) today. He was saying, 'you need to join the family," he laughed.

It's been a good week for Ngakoue, who pulled in Oklahoma earlier in the week. His offer list is into the double-digit range.

With visits to Rutgers, Connecticut and Maryland in the books, Ngakoue was hoping to attend FSU's Spring Game this weekend, but that plan has since changed. When asked if he wants to visit Notre Dame he replied, "I definitely am going to visit." However, he has zero plans of trimming down his list any time soon.
