Bakas: News and Notes around Florida

Here are some news and notes on several prospects from around the state of Florida.

* Alabama is having a big weekend with visitors to their spring game. Two of the top defensive linemen in the state of Florida will be there -- De'Asian Richardson and Demarcus Walker. At 6-foot-4 and 270 pounds, Richardson committed to Florida State at one point but now seems to be choosing between the Tide and Noles. Walker, 6-foot-4 and 250, saw Florida last weekend and seems to have the Gators and Tide at the top of his list.

* South Carolina will have several recruits on campus this weekend, including a couple offensive linemen from St. Thomas Aquinas High. Kyle Schafenacker and Austin Bland will be there. Schafenacker (6-4/280) already has an offer from the Gamecocks and they seem to be in real good shape for him. Bland (6-3/270) claims offers from Purdue and Cincinnati but could land one from USC this weekend.

* DE Devin Washington landed offers from Clemson and Pittsburgh this weekend. At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, the Jones High standout now has around 25 offers and has become one of the state's most hotly recruited players at that position.

* Vanderbilt will have several recruits on campus this weekend, including four of the best from the Tampa area. WR Richard Benjamin, DE Jordan Sherit, LB Nigel Harris, and S Leon McQuay will be on campus. McQuay's father is taking them and all four already have offers from Vandy. They're four of the premier prospects in the greater Tampa area and have been playing on the same all-star 7on7 team lately.
