The Golden Eagles have made the panhandle of Florida a hot spot for recruiting the past few years, and that will continue under Coach Johnson's staff.
They recently made an offer to a tackle/ tight-end in Niceville, Florida. Nicholas Haynes talked with GoldenEaglePride.com tonight about the offer.
"Coach Judge has been recruiting me," he said. "I went down to campus last weekend after an invite to the spring game. After the game I got to meet the coaches and tour the facilities.
"They offered me the scholarship, and I'm excited about it."
He talked about his impressions of the spring game and campus.
"I thought the spring game was good," he said. "The defense looked great. The offense, well you could tell they were trying to learn a new system, but they have plenty of time so they will be ok."
"The campus was nice from what I saw. I didn't see the whole thing but what I saw was real nice."
He also was able to meet the coaches. "I talked with the offensive line coach and he told me about the schemes and I liked that because that is what we do here in Niceville," he said. "I met the head coach but didn't get to talk to him long because he was doing interviews and was just real busy."
Haynes played tight-end last year, but he sees himself more as a tackle.
"Though I played tight-end I didn't catch any passes," he said. "I like run blocking a lot, and I'll be a tackle at the next level. I love to pancake people."
"I don't have any leaders yet," he said. "I am just focused on getting through my spring practice before really sitting down and thinking about everything. I don't have any visits scheduled or anything. I'll just get to the summer and see what's next."
