Burks making rounds

South County Secondary (Va.) outside linebacker Oren Burks made his rounds to six schools in just nine days as he hopes to come to a decision on his college destination before the 2012 season kicks off.

South County Secondary (Va.) outside linebacker Oren Burks made his rounds over spring break to North Carolina State, Duke, Liberty, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Boston College.

NC State was the first school to offer the 6-foot-4, 195-pound Burks, and on his tour, he reeled in one from the Blue Devils.

"NC State was our first trip since they were the first to offer," said his father, Orlanda. "That was a great visit. They really opened our eyes to what they offer there."

After having the opportunity to visit six schools in just nine days, Burks is one step closer to making a college decision. A decision his father hopes he can make before South County's first football game of the 2012 season, and remain firm with until he signs on that dotted line come National Signing Day. "When we make a commitment, it's final. That's it."

These six schools are not the only schools he is considering; however. He has frequented Virginia as well as Maryland, but claims no front-runners at this time.

"The ones high on his list we have been to about two or three times already. He hopes to close out the list soon, but there are a couple suitors we need to visit with, like Penn State and maybe Wisconsin."

Burks plans to attend Virginia Tech's spring game this weekend, according to pop. His former teammate Devin Vandyke signed with the Hokies for the class of 2012. Stay tuned for more.
