Three Stand Out for Smith

Fox Sports Next has the update on Dulles defensive back Maurice Smith from Sugar Land, Texas. He has received a couple new offers in the last 48 hours. With all that is going on, where do things stand with Smith? Fox spoke to the talented junior to get a few of his thoughts.

With all the activity going on in his recruitment, Sugar Land (TX) Dulles defensive back Maurice Smith wants to take a moment to breathe and take it all in. But at the rate he is getting offered, that may be tougher than he thinks.

In the last 48 hours, Florida and Florida State has come through with offers and with spring ball approaching, more are likely coming.

"Right now it seems like they (offers) just keep coming. I think that more will end up coming through," Smith said.

Late last month, 6-foot-1, 180-pound Smith was offered by Ole Miss and early April, Texas came calling as well. But the entire time, Smith and his family have been traveling across the country for him to get a feel for all of the programs that are recruiting him.

And after all the traveling, Smith has been taking all of the information in from plenty of coaches. For now, he is not ready to name a favorite, but a few do stand out.

"Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M stand out for me right now. But I don't want to consider these my favorites," Smith said.

Smith continued as to why these schools have somewhat set themselves apart.

"Not only have these schools said that they want me, but they say they need me. I am first on their recruiting charts for my position," Smith said. "When I have visited them, they sat me down and showed me how I would be used right now."

Of course, the other programs that have offered are not eliminated. Smith has said that he is open to all programs. That is why he said he is likely to make the call during or after the season is complete. He would like to see how each fare on the field first and to give some time to sort through everything.

"I just want to sit back and let everything play out. I'm not counting out any schools," Smith said. "As for the Florida schools, I have always liked them. I just want to see everything, and stay open. A lot of coaches are coming at me hard so I want everybody to be on the same page."

Last season, Smith had 63 tackles and three interceptions. Offensively, he scored 13 touchdowns last season.
