"That was a big surprise," said his father, Orlanda Burks. "The head coach sent a message saying 'please watch the draft Thursday. Two hours later, he contacted us and said he will be at our school at 8 am. That's when he offered."
"It makes you think of your value, a little bit."
While the offer is thrilling and boosts Burks' street cred, the Cornhuskers are coming in late. Burks just completed a whirlwind tour to six schools. He had planned to narrow his list down soon and come to a decision prior to the start of the season. "It's tough for newcombers," said his father. "We have already built a relationship with people and it's hard to come in late," his dad explains. It doesn't mean Nebraska or others are out of the picture just yet. "This definitely is opening the box," said his father.
Currently, Burks has built strong relationships with the Virginia schools: Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster and Anthony Poindexter at UVa. No additional trips are scheduled at this time. Stay tuned for more.
