Illini Add DL Jarrod Clements To The Fold

The Fighting Illini football program is gaining recruiting momentum rapidly. The commitment of star quarterback Aaron Bailey last week appears to have opened the floodgates. Defensive tackle Merrick Jackson committed Monday, and now Ohio defensive lineman Jarrod Clements has pulled the trigger.

Jarrod Clements, who recently transferred from Dayton Dunbar to Trotwood-Madison, confirmed today he will sign with Illinois next February. The 3-star defensive tackle chose the Illini over Louisville and North Carolina State, among others.

Trotwood-Madison always has tremendous talent, and the addition of Clements makes them that much more formidable. The Illini have offered several of Clements's new teammates scholarships, including upcoming senior cornerback Reon Dawson and several younger players. The Illini hope to open a pipeline to the productive powerhouse.

Clements attended an Illinois Junior Day recently. He likes the fact the Illini have turned out several high NFL draft choices along the defensive line, including first rounders Corey Liuget in 2011 and Whitney Mercilus this year.

This gives Illinois seven commitments and tremendous momentum with 9 months left in this recruiting cycle. We hope to add comments from Clements shortly.
