  • While winning a junior college national championship is new to Cox, winning championships aren't. After winning two state championships at West Point High School as a junior and senior, Cox also won an MACJC state championship in 2011 before bringing home the big prize, the 2011 national championship.

"It meant a lot to me to win a national championship," said Cox. "It was my fourth championship in a row. But it's a good feeling to win the national championship."

Cox also won a personal honor for his individual efforts as a freshman at EMCC, after recording 67 tackles, including 52 solos, 5 interceptions and 9 passes broken up. He was selected as a member of the MACJC All-North Division First Team.

After a breakout freshman season, Cox has become a wanted man by college recruiters throughout the nation. When asked who is showing recruiting interest in him, Cox had to pull out his phone and pull up his list, not just a list of schools interested but schools that have offered. Schools interested would be too long to name. And schools offered is a pretty long list by itself.

"All of these schools have offered me - Mississippi State of course, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kentucky, Nebraska, Alabama, Tennessee, Purdue, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Georgia, Iowa State and South Alabama," said Cox.

After receiving an offer from Mississippi State and a few low-major college offers out of high school - he committed to Mississippi State as a senior - receiving so many high-major offers after his freshman year in junior college has caught him by surprise. And also added a little more stress to the recruiting process.

"It has surprised me," said Cox. "But it's also put some stress on me. Alabama offered me, and you know how it is over there; it's a winning environment over there. But I want to go to Mississippi State, too. It's probably going to come down to three, including Arkansas."

Of those three, Mississippi State may have an ever so slight lead, maybe...

"I'm kind of, sort of leaning to State but big schools are coming and they win," said Cox, who runs a 4.28 in the forty yard dash. "And I like being in a winning environment."

Four championships in a row confirm that.
