Florida Taps into Carver Pipeline for Hawkins

The Florida Gators went into one of the most talent rich schools in the southeast and came away with a prospect that has been high on their board for quite some time. Columbus (GA) Carver athlete Marqui Hawkins tells Jason Higdon he will be a Gator and committed to Will Muschamp and staff on Monday.

At 6-1 and 180 pounds Marqui Hawkins is being recruited to Florida as a receiver. He committed to the Gators with offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Missisippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and USC.

Hawkins from a tremendously talented program at Carver talked to Florida head coach Will Muschamp today.

"I told him (Will Muschamp) I was ready to be a Gator and he was real excited," the physical receiver said. "He was really, really happy and said it was a great thing to be a Gator. My family is happy that I committed to Florida and my coaches are very happy and I hope the fans will be happy when they find out."

One of Florida's better recruiters over the last several years has been Brian White. White happens to recruit the southern Georgia area where Hawkins goes to school and Hawkins loves the interactions he has with his recruiting coach.

"Coach White is a good coach and I love him he treats me like his son," he said.

Just as Muschamp has planned for his roster, he will add yet another very physical player in a league that thrives on being the most physical and fastest in the country.

"I am a real fast physical WR and I love to play physical and I have a lot of things to prove," Hawkins said. "I have great hands and run great routes."
