Baylor gets #9

The Bears add their second first team all-district defender of the day.

The Bears received their 2nd defensive commitment today, as they secured Tanner Thrift, a defensive end from Hutto, TX. The Bears recruiting class has continued its defensive flavor, as this is the 3rd defensive commitment in a row, and the 5th overall.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end earned All District First Team Member and District Newcomer of the Year after the 2011 season. However, the big prize came Friday when he received his Baylor offer.

"I am really excited about coming to Baylor. They offered me on Friday, and it felt great. I am ready to be a Baylor Bear."

The Bears have a specific plan for Thrift, and they want him to be that run stopping defense end every good defense requires. "I am a run stopper [at defensive end], the plan is for me to gain a little weight but to stay at defensive end."

In regards to his summer plans, Thrift says "I will be going to a camp at Baylor this summer, but other than that, I am solid to Baylor." He has no plans to go to any other camps.

Baylor stood out to Thrift, especially as his only offer, but he did have some other schools showing interest. The Bears outworked the competition and got in early on the standout defender. "Coach Bennett recruited me the hardest and Coach Lebby."

"I just liked everything about Baylor, it felt right, and I love what they are doing."
