Rakim Peters talks Wake Forest
"Derrick Jackson was talking to my coach about the offer," said Rakim Peters. "He said they liked my versatility and how I play. They like me at defensive end, which is my favorite position. I think I'm at my most powerful and explosive coming off the edge."
The Demon Deacon staff also offered Apalachee teammate Johnny Thompson, also a defensive end. Despite the "Chee" Wildcats 4-6 record in 2011, Peters made First Team All-Region (Georgia 8-4A).
"It depends on the package, but I switch back and forth at outside linebacker and defensive end," Peters said. "Last year I had 53 tackles, two tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and one pass breakup. This was my third season starting. I became a starter halfway through my ninth grade season."
Although offers have been coming in steadily for Peters since football season ended he elected to play basketball and focus on schoolwork instead of taking any spring campus trips.
"I'm trying to graduate early," explained Peters. "I'm planning on taking some visits over the summer. I'm still open, no favorites. I probably won't make a decision until closer to signing day so I can take my official visits.
"On the education side, I want to go to the school that has the best program in Engineering or Computer Science. For the football side, I want to play for a great coaching staff."
Since the Wake Forest offer, Liberty University, with new head coach Turner Gill, has offered Peters.
Apalachee will move up to Georgia 5A next season. They begin their 2012 season in Montgomery, Ala. against Sidney Lanier. Peters wears No. 4 for the Wildcats.
