Hayes Nets Big Ten Offer

Traverse City (Mich.) West sophomore offensive lineman Connor Hayes picks up his first BCS offer and will head to camps in search of more.

Traverse City West class of 2014 offensive lineman Connor Hayes now has three offers, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, and Indiana, who offered him last weekend, becoming his first Big Ten offer.

"It felt pretty good," he said. "[Offensive line] Coach [Greg] Frey has been trying to make it up here and have their recruiting coach, Coach Shelby, come up, but they've been pretty busy, so he called Coach Wooer, talked to him and said they have an offer for me."

There is a connection here. Frey had been to West High before for Jake Fisher, who he recruited at Michigan, but ended up at Oregon. Now Frey is back in Traverse City for Hayes.

"I first met Coach Frey last year when he was recruiting Jake. I liked him, so he's been in contact for a little while. They invited me down to Indiana camp and I went down there [last year]. I really liked the campus. I got a tour of the facilities, met all the coaches. It was a good time. I liked it."

This summer, Hayes will again make it to Bloomington, along with a host of other schools.

"I will be at Michigan State, Michigan, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Indiana, possibly Cincinnati, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. I want to try to make it to as many Midwest camps as I can."

Hayes has played right tackle and guard. He says he will likely be a guard or center in college and is currently working on his snapping. He will also play defensive line this season for the Titans.
