BCS Offer for Hoefeld

Brother Martin offensive lineman Ryan Hoefeld, the nation's 18th-ranked center prospect, received his first BCS offer today. Details inside.

Minnesota has been courting Brother Martin offensive lineman Ryan Hoefeld for some time, and today the Golden Gophers pulled the trigger.

"Coach (Jay) Sawvel was here for our practice on Friday," said Hoefeld of the Minnesota recruiter. "Our regular center wasn't there, so I took snaps in front of Coach Sawvel and coaches from Arizona and Alabama."

Hoefeld, who is projected as a center in college, starts at tackle on the high school level.

"Coach Sawvel said I looked damn good in that uniform on Friday," continued Hoefeld. "He said he would be calling me soon - maybe even that night.

"We had our spring game today and Minnesota's offensive line coach showed up with Coach Sawvel. The o-line coach flew down last night, which impressed me. After the scrimmage was over, the o-line coach asked me how I'd feel about getting an offer from Minnesota, and he told me I can play up there in the best conference in the nation for offensive linemen. He said their conference puts the most o-linemen in the NFL."

How does Hoefeld feel about his first BCS offer (sixth overall)?

"It feels good to get that first big, big one," he said.

Brother Martin competes in 5A, the state's largest classification. The Crusaders have reached the playoffs in each of the past two years behind the blocking of Hoefeld and former teammates such as Jordan Greene (Southern Miss) and Elbert Fulgham (JUCO - Dodge City).
