Marquez White commits to Florida State

Marquez White, three-star cornerback from Northview High School in Dothan, Ala., received an offer Friday from Florida State. He knew in his heart he was ready to make a decision. White talked about his commitment to the Seminoles.

"I committed to Florida State," said Marquez White. "Florida State was the first to start recruiting me. My family loves it. We went on a bunch of visits down there for basketball.

"Hopefully I can play my freshman year [football]. It's a home away from home. I have family members who went to Florida State. I am very happy right now."

Florida State has recruited White for a long time. The offer became official today.

"I talked to coach Craig today," White said. "Coach Craig asked about my ACT stuff today. My counselor faxed him the information. He couldn't offer me until he got the transcript.

"He told me he was going to call coach Fisher to let him know I committed. Coach Craig and I had a long talk. He made sure Florida State was the school I wanted to go to."

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound defensive back talked of everything he likes about the ACC program.

"I know all about the history and great players who played at Florida State like Deion Sanders," White said. "They have put a lot of players in the NFL. I know it's a great school.

"The offer is something I know I have been working hard for. I can't explain it. I know the education will be great. The support system will be great from my end and their end. Hopefully I will be able to make it far."

White still plans to take visits including trips this summer.

"They told me there is no reason for me to not take visits," he said. I plan on taking my visits. I am going to go to the Bama camp and USC.

"I am not going to say it's not as stressful. I know what my heart wanted. For me to have a chance to be a Seminole right now it's just a blessing."
