Johnson likes in-state schools

Fresno (Calif.) Central cornerback Johnny Johnson was only able to do half of the recent NIKE Camp in Oakland last weekend but made a big enough impression to still earn all-tournament honors.

Johnny Johnson dominated the NorCal NIKE Camp last year and narrowly missed earning DB MVP honors. He was dealing with a bum shoulder this year and wasn't cleared for contact but still wowed onlookers in the drills and according to the NIKE coaching staff, showed the best feet of any corner on the tour this year.

On the recruiting front, Johnson is done taking unofficial visits and plans to do all his official visits during the season.

"I'm going to Notre Dame with L.J (Moore) and Hatari (Byrd)," Johnson said. "That's the only visit I know I'm going to take for sure but I plan to take all of them before I make my decision.

"Right now, the three schools that I can say will definitely stay in it until the very end are USC, California and Stanford. I'm very comfortable with all three of those schools. I've already visited them and really like the school as well as the football program."

As for what he's looking for in a school, Johnson said style of defense will play a big role.

"I'm looking at schemes very closely," Johnson said. "I'm a man to man, press cover guy so I'm looking for a defense where I'll be comfortable and I can play a system that fits me. I'm not worried about location or depth chart right now.

"I'll go anywhere and I'm not afraid to compete with other players at my position. I'm not sure when I'll make a commitment but I know it won't be for a while. I want to take all five visits first to make sure I'm doing the right thing."
