Williams shines in Santa Barbara

Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne quarterback Troy Williams was easily the top performer at Steve Clarkson's Santa Barbara QB Retreat over the weekend. The signal caller also has plans for his final unofficial visit and a decision could come in just a few weeks.

Troy Williams had a great weekend, in what was mostly a teaching and learning environment. He's an extremely coachable player and has a lot of plus tools. He spins the football as well as any quarterback in the region. He has a very quick release, a live arm, improved accuracy and can make throws outside the pocket on sprint outs as well as anyone we've seen.

"I like Troy a lot," Clarkson said. "He's one of those quarterbacks that can play in just about any system you want. He's getting better, he wants to be coached, he's a winner and he still has some things he can improve on to take his game to another level. He's a very good kid as well and he had a good weekend out here."

On the recruiting front, Williams has maintained a list of about four of five schools over the last few months but the reality is, Arizona and Washington always seemed like the two to beat.

"I'm going to Washington this Thursday and Friday," Williams said. "My parents and younger sister are coming with me and I'm really looking forward to the visit. I haven't talked to Arizona in a while so I'm not sure what's going on there. I know they took a commitment from Anu Solomon so I'm not sure if that's it or if they want to take two guys in this class.

"I was going to reach out to them last week but never had a chance to because we had finals and right now, I'm not really worried about it. I figure if they still wanted me, they would have reached out to me or my coaches so maybe they're done. I might visit Washington State while I'm out there too but I'm not 100% sure on that right now. We'll just see how it goes. "

Williams said he could decide as soon as the following week.

"I'm probably going to have a little announcement at my high school," Williams said. ‘I don't know if it will be the following week or two weeks after but it will be soon after for sure. I've taken a lot of visits already so I think after this visit to UW, I should have a good idea of what I want to do and I won't waste much time making a decision."
