Boutte Discusses LSU Recruiting Picnic

Josh Boutte, the nation's 14th-ranked offensive guard prospect, committed to LSU in early February, and he's continued to remain 100% on board with the Tigers since then. On Saturday, Boutte made the drive east from New Iberia to Baton Rouge for LSU's Bayou Recruiting Picnic, and he discusses that and more inside with FoxSportsNEXT/Scout.com.

6-foot-5, 305-pound offensive lineman Josh Boutte gave a glowing review of his experience at the Bayou Recruiting Picnic.

"I had a good time," began Boutte. "I met a sophomore offensive guard on the team, and I met (LSU OL) Chris Faulk again. I got to eat with Coach Stud (Tigers o-line coach Greg Studrawa) and that was fun. He showed me his SEC championship ring. It's big and looked good!"

In what has become a recurring theme among the crop of '13 LSU commitments, Boutte singled out four-star CB Jeryl Brazil (Loranger HS) as the fellow pledge that has forged a particularly tight bond with him.

"Jeryl and I text on at least a weekly basis," said Boutte. "We've gotten closer. We're like brothers. I taught dominoes to him at the picnic.

"I had already met some of the guys who were at the picnic and we all got closer on Saturday. I didn't see (four-star California QB and recent LSU commit) Hayden Rettig. I would love to meet him.

"After they showed us a video on Saturday before the picnic started, we had a meeting and Coach Miles talked about leadership. He said leadership is so important for the team, even when it comes to freshmen. He looked at me and introduced me, too."

What are Boutte's plans for the summer?

"I'm only going to camp with LSU," he said. "I'm not camping at other schools because I don't want to upset the coaches. Coach Stud told me to come to the Lineman Camp so I can get one-on-one work against defensive linemen.

"There were 140 linemen at that camp last year."

Boutte will play under a new head coach during his senior campaign at Westgate.

Veteran Westgate boss Brian Fine resigned last week to take a position in north Louisiana that will allow him to work with his young relatives who are fledgling football stars.

"It was a shocker," said Boutte, who was very fond of his former coach. "Our offensive line coach might not be back, either.

"I'm not sure who is going to get the head coaching job, but I'll roll with the punches. We want Ryan Antoine for head coach. It would be a great thing if he came back because he used to coach here. He's knows the Westgate program."

Antoine, who served a stint (with fantastic results) at Westgate as defensive coordinator, is the current head coach at West Saint Mary, a Class 2A school located approximately 20 miles south of New Iberia in Baldwin, Louisiana.

Antoine was the head coach of '12 LSU signee Jerald Hawkins (OL/DL) last year at West Saint Mary, and he currently oversees '13 prospect Trevell Dixon, a three-star safety committed to Nebraska.

At Westgate, Boutte was planning to go both ways at OG and DT this fall under Coach Fine. We'll keep you posted on future developments with Boutte.
