Eagles Look To Pacific Northwest

Southern Miss has brought in a players from California in the past two years, and have shown they will go anywhere to bring in talent. They recently took it a step further and extended an offer to a Seattle, Washington standout. He talks about his connection with south Mississippi and if the Eagles have a shot in bringing him south.

An athlete from Seattle, Washington is not one you'd figure to hear of an offer from a school in south Mississippi, yet that is exactly what has happened for Seattle Prep School star Tere Calloway.

Calloway is a versatile athlete, rated 3 stars by Scout.com. But, how in the world did he come to have interest in Southern Miss, and vice versa?

"I have a lot of family in the south, and Southern Miss is a school that for a while I have wanted an offer from," he explained. "So, I sent my film in yesterday and I got an immediate response from them that they loved it and they wanted to offer me a scholarship to come play there."

He currently holds 13 offers, but Southern Miss is unique in a way. "They were the first to offer me as a running back, so I liked that a lot," he said.

What else stands out to him about Southern Miss?

"It is the best kind of up and coming program," he said. "They were two games away from an undefeated season, and I know they have a great fan base and coaching staff and it just looks like a great place to play football.

"I have some family in Mississippi but most of the family that I am closest with is in Louisiana and some are in Texas."

It is tough for him to make a trip all the way down, but he said later in the process he'd love to visit the campus for an official visit if it is still available.

"I went from one offer in February to 13 at this point, and it is a lot to take in, but I have been humbled by it," he said. "I hope to narrow it down to six before the start of my senior season, and then take my official visits as I make my decision.

"Right now I am making sure that I am healthy going into camps this summer," he said. "I am mostly working on DB stuff at camps and at school I'm focusing on the running back position as well." He plays safety, cornerback, running back, and also returns punts and kickoffs.

"Mostly the camps this summer will give me the chance to get experience under my belt and play against the best of the best to get better," he said. "I want to be the best player I can be and best teammate I can be, so I'm just trying to get better everyday."

Calloway also holds offers from Colorado, Memphis, Idaho, Nevada, Syracuse, Portland State, Purdue, SMU, San Diego State, Wyoming, and now Southern Miss.
