"This morning we did agilities, ran the shuttle, cone drills, shuffle pads and worked on a lot of form with exercises," said Baker, a three-star prospect currently listed as the No. 56 WR in the nation.
"We did the two-point wave where we run wherever the ball is going with quickness and urgency. We also did relay races to see how we rated against others on our team."
And that's not all.
"We had a 10-minute intermission and then lifted weights from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.," said Baker. "I'm going back at 6:30 P.M. to work on a couple of things."
In review, Baker was pleased with the Spartans' morning effort.
"Everybody looks hungry," he said. "You'd think not just one - but all of us are the same speed. We're going out and getting it.
"I've added 15 pounds (between 195 and 200 lbs. at the moment), and I'm turning it all into muscle."
Salmen will scrimmage Class 5A Destrehan (ranked No. 6 in 5A on our preseason list) prior to the official start of the upcoming season. That will be followed by a jamboree, which is another preseason tilt, although jamborees are more formal than most scrimmages (teams wear game uniforms, for example, instead of practice gear).
"We always scrimmage Destrehan, and now we play East Jefferson in the jamboree because we don't play them in the regular season anymore," said Baker.
"The last time I saw him (Jefferson) was at LSU's spring game," said Baker, who has taken a leadership role in helping recruit for the Tigers (along with Jeryl Brazil)."
Salmen made an appearance in the second round of the 4A playoffs last year before losing to Breaux Bridge (which featured three LSU signees).
Baker and the Spartans are listed at No. 5 in our preseason 4A Top 10.
