Coach's Corner: Vernon Hargreaves III

Vernon Hargreaves III is the top cornerback in the country and Wharton Head Coach David Mitchell knows he has a special player.

"His skills are going to take him very far," Wharton Head Coach David Mitchell said about Vernon Hargreaves III. "He has a great skill-set, he has the work ethic you look for, and he works extra to make himself player. He is a unique player that is very knowledgeable of the game."

Hargreaves does not say too much on the field. He lets his actions speak for him.

"He is much more of a leader by example guy. He leads with his character, attitude, and personality. He is not one of those rah-rah guys that talks a lot, but he is what I call, a humble guy. He has all those offers, but he still puts in the work to get better."

The 5-foot-11, 181 pound All-American out of Tampa, Fla. has well over two dozen scholarship offers. Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, South Florida, and others have let him know he has a spot if he wants to commit to them.

Coach Mitchell knows he will be successful on the next level and beyond.

"His natural skills, the way he approaches the game, and the work he puts in will not let him fail," said the Wharton coach. "He has those quick feet as a corner and he understands the different types of coverages many others on his level do not, and he makes a lot of plays, but he is more than that.

"The attitude Vernon carries on and off the field is what makes him who he is. He knows what it takes to get the job done and I thin that will be with him with or without football."
