Pegues Headed to Camp in Louisiana

Coming off of a disappointing 5-6 season last year, the Oxford Chargers feel like they have a lot to prove this year. The Chargers are being lead on the defensive side of the ball by talented defensive end Xavier Pegues (6'3" 230lbs). Pegues racked up 71 total tackles and 2.5 sacks last year and hopes to put up even better numbers this year.

Xavier has a busy slate coming up and one trip he plans on making is to Louisiana to visit the home of the Ragin' Cajuns.

"I'm going to State and UL this weekend. After UL, I'm going to Indiana, Tennessee, Duke, NC State and then Vanderbilt. I'm going with several guys from school. Parker Adamson, Joel Forrester, and Clifton Smith, and me are all heading to each camp together." Xavier then added a bit about who has been contacting him of late. " I've heard from Alabama, Mississippi State, Arkansas State, and that's about it. Honestly, I think Mississippi State is recruiting me the hardest right now and they are probably my favorite. As far as UL goes, I want to look at campus, the coaching staff, and what all there is to do down there. I just need to get a feel for the place."

Xavier knows that he has some work to do and has been working on his weak spots this offseason. He reported that he will be playing both ways this year and had some insight on what he and his teammates need to do this year to improve.

"I need to work on my conditioning and getting stronger. I need to block shed a little better. On offense, I think I need to start planning a little more. I plan on playing both ways this year. We have a lot of sets without the tight end, so I'm a little more prepared on defense. As a team, We need to practice harder and play as a team. We also need to be more coachable. Play like we are coached to play. We have some folks that do their own thing, so we need to stop that."

Xavier is working hard on getting his academics in order and knows that he must improve a little. Focusing on his academics is something he knows he must do.

"I plan on taking my ACT right after school starts. I need to work on my GPA a little. I'm working on it right now though. I'm planning on majoring in Criminal Justice."
