NC State fans may not be familiar with Elkton (Md.) Christian Academy standout Daikiel Shorts but it's a safe bet he's a player that'll be on the recruiting wish list for the foreseeable future.
As a junior Shorts tallied 30 passes for 500 yards and seven touchdowns and made 40 tackles, forced a fumble and intercepted one pass while on defense.
Measured at 6-1, 200 pounds and boasting 4.65-second speed in the 40 while at NC State's football camp, Shorts has landed early scholarship offers from UMass, Temple, Boston College, Maryland, Boise State and Hawaii.
He added offer number seven to the list after an impressive showing in front of the Wolfpack coaches this past Friday. So how did Shorts feel like he performed?
"I think I performed pretty well," Shorts told Pack Pride. "I could've done better but I felt pretty good about it.
"I came in just wanting to work on my craft, show the coaches I could play and I guess they felt I was pretty good since they told me they were going to offer me a scholarship."
Before camp started, Shorts had a chance to visit NC State unofficially with one of his teammates. He apparently came away impressed with what he saw.
"Before the camp started, me and my teammate got a tour of the campus and had a chance to see everything. We loved it. I thought it was very nice."
Shorts was off to UNC for camp on Saturday followed by a trip to West Virginia on Sunday. For now he's content to work on adding to his scholarship total. He's yet to set a time frame for a decision but knows what he'll be looking for when the time comes.
"I'm really looking for a great coaching staff, great teammates and surroundings. I want somewhere that's going to make me better, not only on the field but will also prepare me for life."
Shorts is being recruited as a safety by NC State but is ranked a three-star prospect and the No. 88 wide receiver in the nation by Scout.com.
