Flowers Commits to Mississippi State

Coach Dan Mullen and his staff collected their fourth verbal commitment for the 2013 signing class earlier today when Hollandale-Simmons offensive lineman Kent Flowers pledged his allegiance to the Maroon and White. After the conclusion of Flowers' camp workout, he told FOXSportsNext why he chose the Bulldogs.

"I feel like Mississippi State is better than Ole Miss," said Flowers. "I like Coach Hevesy and I believe he is going to teach me all I need to learn to be a great football player.

"I feel at home up here, so this is the place I need to be in order to get my education and play football."

The Delta standout reports that his relationship with his future position coach, John Hevesy, was a huge factor.

"He is a cool guy and I love him for that," said Flowers. "There aren't too many coaches out there like that.

"I think he can teach me what I need to learn to be the best player I can be.

"I have a lot to learn about technique and footwork and I learned a lot today just by working with Coach Hevesy.

"He talked to me a lot about finishing. He is always saying, 'You gotta finish'."

Flowers reports that he learned a lot about body language and controlling his emotions during the day's event.

"They look at you and your facial expression," said Flowers. "If you get beat and you moan or look sad, they still judge you on that.

"You have to get back in there and work harder and let them know that you aren't going to quit just because you got beat.

"You have to go hard every play."

Flowers reports that he has a very good rapport with his area recruiting coach, Melvin Smith.

"I have talked to him on the phone a lot," said Flowers. "He's a cool guy too.

"I feel like he is going to be a great coach to be around. I feel like I can learn a lot from him too."
