"I found out that I was invited today," Davis said. "I got a text from Kynon [Codrington of ESPNHS] saying, ‘Do you want to get open?' and I thought, ‘Excuse me?' So I called Coach [Yusuf Shakir of Lincoln High] and he let me know what was happening."
The Opening is one of the highest profile high school football events in the nation, drawing major media coverage and college football scouts. However, following his commitment to the University of Georgia last week, Davis's goal will be "to get a really fast 40 time," he said. "I've never run the 40 at a ‘good' time according to scouts. This showcase will give me a chance to do better on it."
Davis will face the media hype and join his most highly recruited classmates in Oregon next month – but for Davis? "It's just another chance to get out on the field and get better."
