The Big Ten has finally taken notice of Lyons Township WR Matt Harris. The 6-foot, 170-pound junior impressed coaches at Illinois Monday at their one-day camp and they extended a scholarship offer after the camp was over. "It's pretty exciting for my first Big Ten offer," Harris said. "I hope there's more to come."
The offer didn't come as a huge surprise to Harris, who said the coaching staff had been asking him about his GPA and test scores.
"When they finally asked me, it felt really good," he said.
When asked what he liked most about Illinois' school and program he said, "I love the school, I love the coaches, just everything about it. You can tell they want to be a winning team with all the hard work they have put in with all the new coaches. I like everything about the school."
Harris said the coaching staff would plan to use him at receiver or defensive back.
He also holds offers from North Dakota, South Dakota, Toledo and Miami (Oh.). He doesn't have a timeline on when he may commit, but he hopes to wait and see what other offers come through in the next few weeks.
