The Vols appear to have further solidified their standing after Ellis and his father trekked to Knoxville.
"We just got back from Tennessee," said Ellis, Sr., who starred at Tulane and Edna Karr during his playing days. "It went really well. They absolutely loved him up there.
"He really likes it out there, as well. He has great chemistry with the DB coach (Derrick Ansley) and Coach (Derek) Dooley spoke really highly of him. They're looking forward to continuing the process of recruiting him."
Ellis, Sr., says the Volunteers hope to host his son again in a few months.
"They want him to come back in the fall for an official visit so he can get a feel for how it is during football season," said the father.
"Also, Junior (Ellis) has been officially invited to participate in the Gridiron Kings Classic in Orlando, Florida, next month at the end of July. He got his invite today (Wednesday)."
The next stop for Ellis may be Mississippi State. Prior to Tennessee, he visited Texas A&M and Texas. Ellis camped in Austin and met with the Aggies' staff in College Station. Earlier this summer, he dominated at the Memphis Nike Football Training Camp - earning an invite to The Opening in Oregon before he departed from Memphis.
Ellis hopes to lead Edna Karr to a third straight appearance in the Class 4A state championship game.
