  • Willis' high school coach received a call from a Mississippi State coach, inviting Willis to one of their June camps. The talented 2014 quarterback came to the camp Thursday and left with the promise that the MSU coaching staff would be watching him over the course of the next two years.

"(Coach Koenning) said that they are going to stay in touch with me," said Willis. "He said they liked my size, I'm a big guy, and he said I have a strong arm. He also said I listen well. He told me (to work on a couple of things) open my leg more and use my hips more."

While the Mississippi State coaching staff came away impressed with the young signal-caller, Willis came away just as impressed with the MSU quarterbacks coach, Les Koenning.

"Coach (Koenning) was very helpful," said Willis. "He's a really good coach. He helped me with my drops and I got a lot of one-on-one time and reps with him in a short amount of time."

Willis is just starting to get on the recruiting radar screen after missing half of his sophomore season with an injury.

"I broke my wrist halfway through the season last year and only played in five games," said the youngster.

So far, two teams are showing early interest in him.

"Arkansas has sent me a letter and Mississippi State invited me to this camp," said Willis.

Although it's early in the recruiting process, Willis already has a list of four schools that he's most interested in.

"I'm interested in Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Alabama," said Willis.
