Banks Commits To Southern Miss

Southern Miss picked up a huge commitment tonight. Offensive tackle Edmend Banks from Stephenson, Georgia has told the coaches he wants to spend his college career in Hattiesburg. has the interview and story with the big man.

Edmend Banks is a huge offensive tackle (6'7, 290) who was ready to make the call early about his future home. He had received a visit from Coach Jeep Hunter, and that was all that he needed in making his decision.

"I actually really liked the school (Southern Miss) and was familiar with it when my step-mom worked there," he said. "I talked with my head coach about it, and I was familiar with it, checked it out on-line, and just knew that was where I wanted to go."

He talked about what stood out about Southern Miss above the rest.

"Coach Hunter was explaining to my Mom about the commitment of the coaches to the players," he said. "He said you could count on the coaches and they are always there for you. My mom and I both really liked that.

"They want to use me at Offensive tackle."

He said he is glad to have the decision made and will not be attending any more camps.

"I'm done with visits, I know where I want to go," he said. "I am excited about it, can't wait to get there. It is a relief that I can just work on my game and get better and hopefully make an impact at Southern Miss."

Banks becomes the first commitment of the 2013 class for Southern Miss.
