Nelson Adds SEC Tender

Defensive back Dontrell Nelson of 6A state champion of Olive Branch has begun to create a bit of a stir after a strong camp showing at Mississippi State last week. The 6-1, 170 pound defensive back reports that he was closed at 4.22 in the 40 yard dash inside the Bulldogs' indoor practice facility. Soon after Nelson had a meeting with Coach Dan Mullen.

"Mississippi State offered me last week after the camp," said Nelson. "I talked with all of the coaches and Coach Mullen told me that they wanted me to come down there more.

"I got to take a tour of the campus and all of that while I was there too.

"They invited me to come back to the Bulldog camp. I am still thinking about it, but I don't think I am going to go."

Nelson, a Memphis commitment, reports that his new offer has given him something to consider.

"I am still committed to Memphis as of right now," said Nelson. "The chance to play at Mississippi State gives me a chance to play at a higher level, so that is something I have to think about." While all schools with extended offers see Nelson as a defensive back, there are varying opinions about where he would line up in the secondary.

"Memphis and Arkansas State are talking about me playing safety," said Nelson. "Mississippi State is talking about me playing corner.

"Their DB coaches told me that they really like how I break on the ball and how I am able to make plays."

Nelson reports that he is in the midst of an active summer and that the recruiting process is on going.

"We are going to Notre Dame on Friday," said Nelson of his team. "I am going to be going to a few other individual camps too.

"I am still committed to Memphis right now, but I am still sort of taking it all in.

"I am going to have to wait and see."
